	Festival of the Flowering Almonds 25th, 26th, 27th January 2008 Puntagorda, Isla de La Palma

	In January and February every year the almond trees of La Palma become a sea of white and pink blossom. Every year the municipality of Puntagorda organises the 'Fiesta del Almendro en flor' to celebrate the coming of the flowers. During the daytime there is traditional folk music and dance, free local wine and almonds, sports events, a market and dancing and music on the streets. During the evening and much of the night the music becomes louder and the dancing continues until the early morning. Everyone is welcome.       Typical Program       The week before the festival   Competition 'Cascade of Almonds' for senior citizens. The person who cracks the most almonds wins, measured by weight of whole almonds.     The festival weekend     Friday   Mens/junior Indoor Football in the El Roque sports hall   Ladies indoor football competiton   Disco in the community hall Cuatro Caminos.   Street music with bands and a percussion band.     Saturday   Concert and dancing in the Community Centre Cuatro Caminos   Dancing in the streets with bands.     Sunday   Childrens entertainment on the school playground of El Colegio Eusebio Muņoz   Exhibition of arts and crafts   Exposition of paintings by local artists   Concert and dancing in the Community Centre Cuatro Caminos   Dancing in the streets with bands   Street market From about 12:00 until about 15:00;   Festival of traditional Music on the playground of the I.E.S. school, El Pinar   Poets and verse readers.   There will be a stall where you can taste products made from almonds, prepared by "las Alegres Campesinas" (The Happy Farmers!).   Almonds and local wine will be distibuted. The wine may be Tea-wine (pronounced Tay-a).
